Business spotlight: Dermalily

If you’re going to talk about Dermalily, you have to talk about Melissa Valdez. Sure, the owner and operator of the Southtown skincare and waxing studio is wild about skincare, but what she’s truly passionate about is making her clients glow inside and out.

As a transgendered Latina business owner, Valdez wanted to create an oasis where any client will feel at ease. “When I opened my business in March of this year I wanted to open an establishment that would welcome everyone from different walks of life, no matter your sexual orientation, gender, race, or religious beliefs,” she explains. “I know what it’s like firsthand, as I’m sure a lot of people within the community may have experienced, to walk into a place and feel like you’re being judged for being different.”

This welcoming 900-square-foot loft space offers an extensive beauty menu, including facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, micro current, manicures, pedicures, body wraps, and scrubs (massage and eyelash extensions coming soon!). The former Miss Gay TX USA ’95, Miss Gay TX Continental ’97, and Miss Gay Tri-States USA 2000 knows how to get you ready for any day, whether you’re headed to the stage or the office.

The relationship doesn’t end when you walk out Dermalily’s door. “I especially like to follow up with my clients who may have received a skincare treatment like a chemical peel or waxing to make sure that everything is going well,” Valdez says.

If you’re ready for an experience that you will be eager to repeat, visit Dermalily online at www.dermalily.com or like the facebook page www.facebook.com/dermalilyskincare for the first word on monthly promotions. You can also call (210) 444-0234. Dermalily is located at 724 S. Alamo.
