A Queer Events Guide To Celebrating Halloween in San Antonio

Here’s a list of Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos events sponsored by local LGBT businesses and organizations. From a kid’s costume contest, to a cemetery tour and a decadent Muertos drag show, there’s something for everyone.

Bonham Exchange
With a DJ on each level of the Bonham (DJ M3 & Tony Cortez from 94.1 will be on the main floor), expect to get into all sorts of shenanigans on the dance floor. There will also, of course, be a costume contest. Shake your tail feather all night long and refuel with $2 wells and $3 domestics. Free, Wed Oct. 31, 8 pm, 411 Bonham St.

Curious Twins Paranormal Flashlight Cemetery Tour
Enjoy the stories and ghost of our cities past. Stroll by flashlight through the dirt and gravel paths of City Cemetery #1, one of the oldest operating cemeteries in the city. Learn strange, and fun facts of San Antonio history. Plus learn the basics of ghost hunting. We will have ghost hunting supplies for you to use. Oct. 31 at 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm at San Antonio City Cemetery #1, 1901 East Commerce St. $15 per adult or child.

Día de los Muertos Celebration con Esperanza
Join the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center in celebrating Día de los Muertos on November 1, 2018 from 3 pm to 11:30 pm at the Rinconcito de Esperanza, 816 S. Colorado. There will be displays of community altars, live music, face painting for children, and more! The evening will highlight readings of literary offerings to remember our dead, and calavera poems that poke fun at the living and their untimely encounters with La Muerte or La Catrina.

Heat Nightclub Divas Halloween Show
Love the divas over at Heat? Us too. Don’t miss their special Halloween edition of their show, it surely won’t disappoint. There will also be $2 well drinks all night long! No cover info, Fri., Oct. 26, 11:30 pm, 1500 N. Main Ave.

Heat Nightclub Monster Ball
If monsters are your thing, you’ll want to head over to Heat for its Monster Ball with a “ghouls show” and a costume contest, naturally. So bring your best look and get ready to werk. No cover, Sat., Oct. 27, 9 pm, 1500 N Main Ave.

Kids Costume Contest at Luther’s
Luther’s Cafe is welcoming little boys and ghouls for a kid-friendly costume contest on the eerie holiday. There will also be games to keep the kiddos entertained while you sip on an adult beverage. (Sit down, one is fine, y’all.) Free, Wed., Oct. 31, 6 pm, 1503 N Main Ave.

Pride Families: Fall Festival & Trunk-or-Treat
All families are welcome to join in the celebration with food, costume contests, lots of candy and community. This free event is a celebration of diverse families brought to you by Pride Center San Antonio in collaboration with area LGBTQ+ organizations. The Rocky Horror Show
Rey Lopez Entertainment presents The Rocky Horror Show. Special celebrity guests from RuPaul’s Drag Race Laganja Estranja, Ginger Minj and Cynthia Lee Fontaine. Also, from Mean Girls and Looking, Daniel Franseze. October 31 at Woodlawn Pointe, 702 Donaldson Ave. Showtime at 7:30 pm. VIP Tickets with Meet and Greet are $75. General Admission is $55. Sparky’s Pub
Though the big event of the night will be the costume contest at 11:30 p.m., it’s worth showing up early and getting super buzzed. There will be $3 flavored Jim Beam shots all night long. No cover, Sat., Oct. 27, 9 pm, 1416 N Main Ave.

San Antonio Dia De Los Muertos Ball
Join Rene Roberts and cast for an amazing show in support of local church food pantries and the San Antonio Food Bank. The evening features a raunchy stage show with a Dia de los Muertos theme. It’s one of the biggest and popular Day of the Dead events in San Antonio. Bring your tipping dollars. The Strip
Knockout, Sparky’s, Luther’s and the Heat are all teaming up on Halloween night to bring you one massive block party. Sure, you can get boozy inside these bars and nightclubs, but keep the party going as you make your way down the Strip throughout the night. Free, Wed., Oct. 31, 9 pm, The Strip, Main Avenue.

Time Warp at La Botanica
The LGBTQ-friendly bar will team up with LezRideSA for a dance party fundraiser. Wear your best Halloween or Time Warp costume, dance the night away to music with DJ Despeinada and help support LGBTQIA+ youth and community. $7 suggested donation, Sat Oct. 27, 8 pm, 2911 N. St. Mary’s St.
