Azul Barrientos to Premier New Album With Concert at Carver Center

San Antonio-based chanteuse Azul Barrientos will premier her new album, Nuestro Corazón!, at a concert on Sunday, September 16 at the Carver Center’s Jo Long Theater.

Barrientos, who is from Mexico City, has been artist-in-residence at the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center since 2007 where her monthly Noche Azul concerts have showcased traditional Mexican music and over time, embraced all genres including boleros, rancheras, folk music, jazz and electronic music. The singer has also used her music as a way to make political statements and give voice to various social justice issues.

Nuestro Corazón! includes new songs as well as renditions of Spanish-language classics like La Ultima Copa, Canción de Las Simples Cosas, and Corazón, Corazón. The album was recorded at Blue Cat Studios in San Antonio by producer Joe Treviño.

During the concert, Barrientos will be accompanied by musicians who have been a part of her life and musical career through the years, including Nina Rodriguez (percussion), Eric Casillas (percussion), George Prado (double bass), Aaron Prado (piano), and David Gonzalez Blancas (guitar). All the songs on the album will be performed.

There’s also a list of guest musicians who include Michael Martin, Andrew Bergmann, Al Gomez, Juan Cabrera, Keli Cabunoc, and Cuauhtli Reyna.

The Ballet Folklórico de Austin will open the concert with celebratory Guelaguetza dances from Oaxaca, Mexico.

Tickets ( $15 until September 14, $20 after) available at the Carver Center box office on Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center, 922 San Pedro Ave from 10 a.m. – 7p.m., and online via Ticketmaster at this link. Copies of the album in vinyl and CD formats will be available for purchase at the concert.
