A mayoral candidate forum scheduled for April 28 that was to have dealt with LGBT issues has been cancelled.

The forum, which was sponsored by Orgullo de San Antonio LULAC 22198, the San Antonio LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Pride Center San Antonio and Move San Antonio, was to have been held at the San Antonio Foundation.

In a conversation last week, Robert Salcido, one of the event’s organizers, told Out In SA that he was having difficulty finding a day when all of the top contenders could attend. He confirmed that he had not heard back from Mayor Ivy R. Taylor and had not expected her to participate.

Salcido said the event was open to all 14 mayoral candidates. He said he had heard from about five of the “minor” candidates who said they could have attended.

The forum would have been the first in San Antonio history to address LGBT concerns. In an April 16 press release Salcido wrote:

We feel great pride to see events such as these public forums organized by organizations working in collaboration. Our initiatives flourish from the conversations that these opportunities provide; they highlight just how important it is to support our voices in politics at a time when they’re needed. We look forward to collaborating in the future on another event soon and thank everyone for their understanding.

Salcido also announced that Move San Antonio was publishing a “comprehensive nonpartisan” voter’s guide which will be available online at SanAntonioVoterGuide.org and will also be distributed across the city in print form.
