With the Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision looming, LGBT communities around the country are anxiously awaiting what will be a historic day, regardless of the decision.
It is the hope of so many that all people will soon have a constitutionally recognized right to marry the person they love. While one Bexar County clerk is already preparing for the best, Rachel Maddow warned her viewers last night of the danger in assuming that gay marriage will be legalized. Although she is right to remind us all that the court could reinforce marriage bans as easily as it did last fall when it ruled that some state marriage bans were legal, the San Antonio chapter of the Human Rights Campaign is eager to show the world that San Antonio supports marriage equality, whatever the decision may be.
HRC San Antonio is inviting the local community to unite in solidarity the day of the ruling at Luther’s Cafe. At 6pm, officials and several Human Rights Campaign leaders will be speaking at the Bexar County Court House. Following this and any other events transpiring on Thursday, the HRC is encouraging all community members to meet at Luther’s Cafe to demonstrate San Antonio’s support for marriage equality. The date is uncertain as of right now, but it is predicted that the ruling could come on the 25th. The HRC is posting updates to the situation via Facebook.
