San Antonio's East Side got its second brewery* last Friday, with the star-studded ribbon-cutting for the Alamo Beer Company's new facility next to the Hays Street Bridge. Protesters, led in part by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, unveiled banners that read "Keep Public Lands Out of Private Hands" and chanted "Liar, liar, gentrifier" from the bridge above, while mayoral and council candidates (Mike Villarreal and Leticia Van de Putte for the top spot, Alan Warrick II for D2) worked the crowd and media (you'll spot the E-N's Brian Chasnoff and Josh Baugh at work). Hotel Emma ambassador Hugh Daschbach was present, as were a few historical reenactors. At least we hope they're historical.
*We're claiming the Freetail brewery and tasting room for the East Side, too, because – disclosure–Out In SA editor Elaine Wolff lives and owns property on the East Side and it's nice to have options.
