If you’ve ever experienced a flamenco show in San Antonio, chances are you’ve seen the work of Lisa Perello, who designs costumes and dresses for nearly every flamenco dancer in the city.
Her clients include Arte y Pasión and the dance studio Raices de Arte Español among others. In 2012, she presented the first all flamenco fashion show in San Antonio, “Perello 09.13.12.” and in 2013, her work was on display at the McNay Museum as part of the exhibition “Fiesta, Fête, Festival: Selections from the Tobin Collection.”
As part of this year’s We Flamenco Fest, Perello will present a brand new all flamenco inspired show. Along with the usual cast of dancers and models, this year’s show will feature Perello’s first transgender model, Justine James.
“To me, it’s not a Perello if it’s not fitted right,” she told Out in SA in 2015. “I love that it’s going to be form fitting and your butt is going to show and your stomach is going to be held in tight; but you can still dance; you can still move.”
