The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center will present a pair of solo shows by artists Ana Fernandez and Ruth Buentello on September 1.
“Eastside Westside” by Fernandez and “Narratives Invented” by Buentello will feature work dealing with “place and perspective through a bi-cultural lens.”
In a press release, executive director Cristina Ballí said, “Both Ana and Ruth are hard–working, sought-after artists with strong voices that come through in their works … What we consider mundane, everyday occurrences are brilliantly captured in still life through their Latina perspectives.”

Fernandez holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from UCLA. Her paintings depicting San Antonio’s inner-city have been displayed at the McNay Art Museum and The Institute of Texan Cultures.
Buentello is also a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago and co-founder of the Mas Rudas artist collective. She explores Latin@ identity through murals and installations and has exhibited her work at Self Help Graphics in Los Angeles, the Museo Alameda, and the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin.
