I have driven past Male B Wear countless times before on my way to HEAT–or Essence if I’m feeling like a dirty girl–and it has always caught my attention. But I never wandered inside because while I would LOVE yellow ass-less undies with the word “twerk” embroidered on the front, I knew that they were only available for men, so I just drove on by with a heavy heart. Recently I caught wind of a cool concept B-Wear is bringing into the store: a “flawless fit” custom clothing line, so I was excited to finally have an excuse for checking out Panty Land. When I walked in, I was greeted by several well-groomed young babes and promptly offered some wine, so we were already starting off on the right foot. I was soon introduced to Esteban Guardado, half of the team behind Male B Wear.
With the Male B Wear customizable line, you can dress to impress in any situation, work or play. Start by making an appointment to meet the tailor at the store, which I am told by line rep Susie Cabrera is a short visit. First-time customers can expect the meeting to last 30 minutes to an hour, but according to Cabrera that’s mostly because clients take so long choosing from among the beautiful fabrics at their disposal–sourced from Egypt, Italy, Japan, and the U.K. While you meet with the tailor you will be measured and shown swatches in various colors, patterns, and textures. And when I say “variety” I mean variety. Just as a frame of reference, if I were to throw all the squares on the ground in the store I would be taken back to my days in the McDonald’s Playhouse ball pit. “Ball pit” means something completely different to me now, but we can save that for another post.
After you choose your fabrics, you’ll pick a collar, back pleating, front-button details, monogramming, sweat resistant layers–the list could go on and on, depending what you like. Mandarin collar? You got it! Want the lining in be a different fabric? Coming right up! The names of all of your past sexual partners embroidered on your sleeve? I don’t know, but PROLLY! On-the-spot sketches are offered and a picture is taken of each client before specifications are sent off to Hong Kong for execution, which adds an even more personal touch because the tailor making your clothes can see little intricacies about your shape that cold measurements alone might not capture. Two to three weeks later, your new duds arrive stateside.
Male B Wear is specializing in suits and suit separates, including shirts and slacks, but the shop hopes to start a custom necktie line as well. I would recommend Male B Wear for any special occasion or even just your work or weekend look, especially with the very competitive price points: $75-$85 for a shirt, $1,000-$1,500 for a suit. If you take my word for it and end up hating your new party outfit, no worries because a full refund is a phone call away. I wish condoms and cigarettes were also just a phone call away, but for now this will have to do!
