There’s enough energy to power half a dozen plays in the Overtime’s production of GLAAD to Know You by Chadd Green and Lee Hurtado. The story concerns two actors, Vince (Bankston) and Sean (Kelly), who have become famous both for their chemistry in Hollywood movies and their public-pleasing offscreen romance. Small problem: they’re not a real couple, they’re both in love with other people, and one of them (Vince) is actually straight. On the other hand, they feel a responsibility to promoting their image as icons of gay stability. Will love triumph over PR?
What ensues is an hilarious, door-slamming farce in the tradition of Michael Frayn’s Noises Off or Joe Orton’s What the Butler Saw, executed beautifully by a game cast under Morgan Clyde’s staging. Timing a comedy like this isn’t easy, but the actors make it seem so. Both sex-positive and gay-positive, GLAAD to Know You contains physical comedy and wit to spare in a light, zippy production that delivers huge laughs.
GLAAD to Know You runs until March 28 at the Overtime Theater, with showings at 8PM on Fridays and Saturdays and Sunday matinees on March 12 and March 26 at 2:30PM. To buy tickets, visit http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1278943.
