Members of the LGBT advisory group met for the first time with Mayor Ivy Taylor on October 9.
The committee of three includes Marsha Warren, the LGBT liaison to the mayor’s office, and activists Ruby Krebs and Robert Salcido.
Also present at the meeting was Leilah Powell, the mayor’s chief of policy.
Warren told Out In SA that at the meeting, the discussion centered on the mayor’s plans to develop a process and structure for addressing complaints filed under the city’s nondiscrimination ordinance.
In an interview on September 16 with QSanAntonio, Powell said the mayor hopes to engage other groups which deal with concerns of protected classes from among the city’s many boards and commissions. She cited the city employees’ affirmative action advisory committee and the veteran’s issues committee as examples.
In that interview, Powell said the mayor wants to organize these smaller committees into a larger mega-group which would be charged with implementation of the expanded NDO and oversight of the city’s policies and programs that disproportionally impact protected classes.
Warren said that some of the details of the mayor’s plan are changing and will be made public once they are formulated. She added that there is still no date set for the “official” rollout of the NDO web site.
The LGBT committee plans to meet with the mayor again during the first week in November.
