Interfaith Service for Orlando Victims Planned at Unity Church

Unity Church San Antonio and several other faith communities will come together for an interfaith service on July 12 to commemorate the tragic deaths of 49 people at the Pulse dance club in Orlando.

Unity will be joined by Awakening Spiritual Collaborative Events, Celebration Circle of San Antonio, San Antonio Peace Center, Compassionate San Antonio and San Antonio Quakers at the event. Organizers say other faith communities will be a part of the service, which has been dubbed, “Healing our Hearts: One Month after Orlando.”

“A lot of times after something tragic after Orlando, as the public attention moves on to other topics, and those left with troubled hearts are quickly forgotten. We are joining other faith communities in not forgetting those troubled hearts. This service is intended to help heal to heal our hearts and continue to honor those who have passed,” Jennifer Shawker, communications coordinator at Unity Church, said in a press release.

Shawker says participating faith communities will “provide inspiring music and uplifting words” at the service. Donations of any amount will be accepted and forwarded to One Orlando which benefits the victims and their family members.

Unity Church of San Antonio presents Healing Our Hearts: One Month After Orlando, an interfaith service on July 12, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the church, 1723 West Lawndale Street in San Antonio.
