Event organizers at Fiesta Youth are making the final preparations for the third annual Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil party, a masquerade-themed fundraiser which this year will be held on Friday, April 21.
The new venue for the event, The Veranda, was built in the 1920’s and sits on 35 acres of wilderness in Castle Hills with giant oaks and manicured gardens.
Slated for the first weekend of Fiesta San Antonio, the party features an open bar with wine, sangria, margaritas and beer. There will also be a five-course buffet highlighting a fiesta-themed menu prepared by Chef Michael Bomberg.
Guests at the party will be entertained by Grupo Folklorico De Bendiciones, DJ Rober Rook, singer-songwriter Laura Marie, drag performances by Ms Kyra Calloway, Ms. Autumn Summers, Ms. Armani Andrews-Balderas, Ms. Stephanie Fishe, Ms. Braisha Fox and a special appearance by Mr. Piñata. Emcee for the evening is Crystafer MIC.
Partygoers will be able to take advantage of a shuttle service sponsored by Heat Nightclub, Sparky’s Pub, Knockout Sports Bar, and Luther’s Cafe that will run between the event and the Main Avenue Strip. There will be free parking in the parking garage. The shuttle service starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs continuously throughout the evening.
The mission of Fiesta Youth is to provide “a safe, non-judgmental, affirming place for LBGT teens to express and explore who they are through education, peer-support, advocacy and friendship.” The group meets on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at University Presbyterian Church, 300 Bushnell.
Fiesta Youth was organized in 2013 by founder Emily Leeper, a San Antonio mom with a teenage lesbian daughter. Leeper started the LGBT youth group after finding out there was none in the city.
In January 2015, Fiesta Youth expanded by adding Fiesta U, a support group for young adults aged 19 to 24 that meets from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on every the fourth Thursday of the month at the Unity Heights Community Center, 8103 Broadway.
