The seventh annual Emerald Ball, a variety show to benefit Pride Center San Antonio, will take the stage at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, March 10.
The show, which is organized by photographer Julián P. Ledezma, who is on the Pride Center board, will feature local drag queens, singers, aerialists, the Live Oak Singers and gay rapper Chris Conde. Tencha La Jefa will serve as emcee.
The Pride Center was founded 2011 with the purpose of establishing itself as “a clearinghouse that would work in alliance, rather than in competition, with existing programs and services within our community.”
Raising funds is especially important this year. In January, the Pride Center found a permanent home just one block from the Main Avenue Strip in a professional office building owned by the Metropolitan Methodist Hospital on the 300 block of Ogden Street.
The new space will be much larger than the shared administrative space the Center currently occupies. There will now be plenty of room to take walk-ins, conduct meetings and hold classes. The new location is in it’s final stages of renovations and is slated to open Spring 2018.
In a Facebook post, Councilman Roberto Treviño, who helped connect the Center with Metropolitan Methodist, said he was proud of the establishment of “a new home for the Pride Center right in the heart of our compassionate city.”
