Volunteers and organizers for the Rape Crisis Center are busy making the final preparations for the organization’s annual La Reina Run which is being held at the Mission County Park Pavilions on Saturday, June 9.
The Rape Crisis Center was established to help anyone “impacted by sexual violence, including men, women and children, and their non-offending friends and family members.” Their work includes ensuring a responsive medical community, sensitive law enforcement and an active prosecution system.
This year, the Rape Crisis Center is one of the beneficiaries of funds raised by Pride San Antonio. Paige Martin, development coordinator for the center, reminded Out In SA that its advocacy and counseling services include outreach to the LGBTQ community.
The La Reina Run includes a 5k and a 10k run. Registration is open to men, women and kids. Organizers are telling runners to “show your power by dressing to your inner Queen.”
A music and vendor fair will take place after the race and an off-site after party is slated at the Cherrity Bar, where runners and supporters can enjoy a cocktail made especially for the event.
