LGBT Community Events Celebrate the Holiday Season in Style

There is no shortage of holiday cheer in San Antonio’s LGBT community as groups and clubs all over town schedule events to celebrate the season.

From dance parties to holiday concerts to a breakfast with Santa Claus, there’s something for everyone on this seasonal calendar. Below is a select list of events and fundraisers for those looking to get into the celebratory spirit.

December 6: LezDance for LGBT Youth
LezRideSA is hosting a dance party to raise funds for their LGBT youth grant on Friday, December 8 from 8 p.m. to midnight at La Botanica, 2911 N. St. Mary’s. Featuring DJ De La O and DJ Despeinada. Admission is $10. Bike raffle tickets are 5 for $20 or 2 for $10. Purchase tickets at this link.

December 9: Second Saturday Las Posadas
The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center’s monthly oral history convivio’s theme is Las Posadas. There will be a choir of students from JT Brackenridge Elementary School performing songs in Spanish and Nahuatl as well as food, a pinata and additional community performances. On Saturday, December 9 at at the Rinconcito de Esperanza, 816 S. Colorado from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

December 9 & 10: Live Oak Singers Holiday Concert
The Live Oak Singers will present their holiday concert Elves Night Out: Martinis and Mistletoe on December 9 at 7:30 and December 10 at 4 p.m. at Woodlawn Pointe, 702 Donaldson. General admission is $15. Military, seniors and students $12. Tickets available at this link.

December 10: MCC Breakfast with Santa
Join MCC San Antonio, 611 E. Myrtle, on December 10 for a full day of holiday celebrations. Bring the kids and your camera for breakfast with Santa from 8 to 10 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, eggs and bacon. Then stick around for 10:30 a.m. Sunday School. Following church services, join MCC in the social hall for a Christmas party. There will be a special treat for the kids and a special gift for each family.

Dec. 14: LGBT LULAC Celebrando Los Holidays
Orgullo de San Antonio LGBT LULAC Council 22198 is hosting Celebrando los Holidays on Thursday, December 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at VFW Post 1533, 2017 Elmhurst Avenue. There will be a cash bar, food, music and door prizes. The party is free but Orgullo is asking attendees to bring donations of gift cards, socks, personal hygiene items and laundry supplies for youths who live at the Roy Maas Youth Alternatives facility and who participate in the Turning Point Transitional Living Program.

December 16: Community Christmas Party and Show
The Alamo Empire, the Texas Gay Rodeo Association, the San Antonio Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the Renegade Bears of San Antonio, the National Leather Association San Antonio and Team Friendly Alamo City are hosting the annual Community Christmas Party and Show on December 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Heat Nightclub. There will be a complimentary dinner, a raffle, a desert contest and a stage show. Admission is $5 or canned goods and toys for the MCC Food Pantry and Blue Santa programs.

December 19: Sparky’s Holiday Open House
Join the staff and management of Sparky’s Pub along with their friends at Bacardi Limited, Beam Suntori, Diageo, E&J Gallo, Miller Coors, Moet Hennessy and the Patron Spirits Co. for an evening of cocktails, wine, bubbly and delicious food along with entertainment and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit Operation Blue Santa. A donation of a new unwrapped toy or at least $10 is appreciated.

December 20: Male B Wear Holiday Bash
Male B Wear, the store with the sexy undies, invites everyone to their second annual Christmas Holiday Bash on December 20 at 7:30 p.m. at their store at 1700 N. Main. There will be a special guest appearance by Raven and plenty of food, drinks and a live DJ.

December 21: Ladies on the Loose
Join the Ladies on the loose for a bit of holiday cheer at Sparky’s Pub, 1416 N. Main, on Thursday December 21 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. All single-shot drinks will be $3 all evening. There will be music for dancing, a holiday buffet and no admission fee!

December 22: Pride SA Crosswalk Fundraiser
Pride San Antonio and Pride Center San Antonio are hoping to raise $30,000 by the end of the year to help fund rainbow crosswalks on North Main and Evergreen. December 22 has been chosen as a day to encourage the community to contribute to a Kickstarter campaign that was started in October. Donations can be made at this link.

December 31: New Year’s Eve Night in Vegas
Pride Center San Antonio invites you to get lucky while you ring in 2018 at their New Year’s Eve Night in Vegas at the Hilton Palacio del Rio hotel on the Riverwalk. Enjoy a Vegas style casino night on the hotel’s 22nd floor with panoramic views of the city’s Tricentennial fireworks display. Admission is $100. Get your tickets at this link.
