At Pride 2015, the San Antonio Aids Foundation tested over one hundred people for HIV. The organization, which provides free HIV testing services among many other services for HIV positive people, is continuing its STD testing services at a new testing location at 333 South Hackberry.
The previous location was at the Grayson Street office, but learning one’s HIV status is still very quick and easy at the new Hackberry location. One only has to go to the testing center and wait for a testing counselor to prick their finger. After the testing counselor mixes the blood sample in three solutions, your results can be ready in 60 seconds. SAAF offers free HIV and Syphilis testing and counseling on a walk in basis Monday through Saturday. Testing services are available in English and Spanish and SAAF also offers confidential and anonymous testing.
Apart from mobile HIV testing services (SAAF’s testing van will be at the Pegasus from 10:30 – 2 AM on the 17th and at the Saint from 10:30 – 2 AM on the 21st), SAAF also offers in-patient skilled nursing and hospice care, a hot meal program, short term transitional housing, dental assistance, and case management services for HIV positive people.
