Although the San Antonio AIDS opened their new testing center last July, the official grand opening will be observed on Saturday, September 12 with an open house.
“We want everyone to come out, have fun and see what we have to offer,” says Regina Villalobos-Perez, vice president of marketing at SAAF. “We encourage people to come not only to check out the event, but to learn about our services.”
The new stand-alone center is located 333 South Hackberry and is solely dedicated to testing — not just HIV testing but also tests for syphilis, hepatitis C and tuberculosis. The facility, which employs 12 people, is near downtown, just two blocks east of the Alamodome.
Villalobos-Perez says the office was opened in response to the growing need for HIV testing and prevention services in San Antonio. SAAF also has a testing van that is deployed across the city.
All ages are welcome at the family-friendly open house. There will be music, games, a moon bounce for the kids, free food giveaways for families courtesy of the Nourishing SAAF dietary program, and hot dogs and chips for all.
Free HIV testing will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
